England’s top tennis player Jack Draper has officially named Jamie Delgado—Andy Murray’s former coach—as his new head coach. Delgado coached Murray from 2016 to 2021 before taking charge of two other prominent players: Denis Shapovalov of Canada and Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov.
Previously, Draper worked closely with James Trotman, who had been by his side since his junior career. However, in a plan to rebuild his coaching staff, Draper chose to appoint Delgado as the head coach, while Trotman will continue to serve as an advisor and provide technical support. Delgado will travel with Draper for most tournaments in the upcoming season.
Jack Draper is currently England’s number one player and ranked 8th in the ATP rankings.
Jamie Delgado, 48, was a member of the British Davis Cup team and holds the record for the most consecutive Wimbledon singles appearances (23 times). He began working with Andy Murray in 2016, initially collaborating with Ivan Lendl during the period when Murray reached his career peak by winning Wimbledon 2016, Olympic gold in Rio, and finishing the year as world No. 1.
Delgado remained on Murray’s coaching team until the end of 2021, then went on to coach Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov—both players who highly valued his professionalism and strategic expertise.
After Delgado finished his contract with Dimitrov last month, Draper quickly reached out to appoint him as head coach. Their partnership is planned to begin during the preseason, while Draper recovers from a left arm injury that has limited him to only one match since Wimbledon.
At the grass-court Grand Slam in July, Draper was eliminated in the second round and diagnosed with a bone bruise. He attempted a comeback at the US Open but had to withdraw before his second-round match against Zizou Bergs, ending his season earlier than expected. This pause caused the 23-year-old player to miss his first opportunity to compete in the ATP Finals, drop to 8th in the ATP rankings, and fall out of the qualification group for Turin.
Draper is expected to return to competition at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) Grand Final in London from December 5 to 7, after receiving a wildcard from the organizers. This is the same event where he won the championship in 2023.
Currently, Draper is ranked 8th in the ATP singles rankings, ahead of the legendary Novak Djokovic, and holds 9th place in the ATP Live Race To Turin. However, due to his early withdrawal from competition, the young English player will not be able to participate in this year’s inaugural Nitto ATP Finals.
