Serbian player Novak Djokovic keeps making history by surpassing a record set by the legendary Roger Federer.
Novak Djokovic from Serbia has once again made history by breaking a record belonging to the iconic Roger Federer.
Djokovic defeated Jaume Munar 2-1 to secure a spot in the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals. The match lasted over 1 hour and 30 minutes, with the world No. 4 winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, thus advancing to the last eight of the tournament.
Not only did Djokovic reach the quarterfinals, but he also became the oldest player in tennis history to make it to the quarterfinals of a Masters event, surpassing the previous record held by Roger Federer until 2025.
Previously, Djokovic also set a mark as the oldest player ever to reach the quarterfinals in all Grand Slam tournaments, and the oldest to defeat a Grand Slam champion at a Masters event.
This new record further confirms the Serbian player's endurance and class, as he maintains top-level performance at the age of 37.
The recent fourth-round match at the Shanghai Masters showed difficult moments for Djokovic, who experienced issues with his left foot from the very first set. Despite overcoming the pain and winning the opening set with a break, the world No. 4 began to tire in the second set against Munar’s persistence. The Spanish player capitalized on a late break to even the score, leaving Djokovic struggling in exhaustion.
The 37-year-old passed a medical check and returned with determination in the deciding set. He broke Munar’s serve in the second game, maintained strong serving form, and closed out the match with a 2-1 victory. Nole will face Zizou Bergs in the quarterfinals.
