On October 22, 2025, at the ATP 500 Vienna Open, the men's singles first round continued with sixth seed Medvedev battling through three sets to defeat Portuguese player Borges 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-2, securing his fourth consecutive win over Borges and maintaining a five-match winning streak since the ATP Almaty event.
Medvedev
Medvedev had previously won all encounters against Borges. Having regained form during the China season, he started this match smoothly and even earned match point in the second set tiebreak. However, Borges fought back, saving two match points and pushing the contest into a deciding set. In the final set, Medvedev did not miss his chance, quickly taking four games in a row to establish a lead and converting his fourth match point to close out the match in three sets.
In the next round, Medvedev will face Moutet again, who cruised past qualifier Dezhukh 6-3, 6-0 in the first round. The two players recently met in last week's final, where Medvedev triumphed in three sets, ending a title drought of over two and a half years.
Top seed Sinner advanced smoothly to the second round, dispatching German player Altmaier 6-0, 6-2 in just 58 minutes. He will face fellow Italian Cobolli, who defeated Mahach 7-6(6), 6-2, setting up an all-Italian clash.
In other matches, Berrettini eliminated Poplin 7-6(5), 6-3, while Griekspoor defeated Brandon Nakashima 7-6(4), 7-6(2). In an earlier second-round match, third seed Deminal overcame wildcard local player Misolic 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.
