Before last week, do you know when Medvedev last won a tour title? It was exactly 882 days ago, at the 2023 ATP1000 Rome Masters, where Medvedev defeated top players including Tsitsipas and Rune to claim his first career clay Masters and tour title, completing his set of championships on all three major surfaces.
The Rome Masters was also Medvedev’s 20th career title, but after winning in Rome that year, Medvedev, who was in great form, surprisingly lost in the first round of the French Open to qualifier Wild, falling in five sets and exiting the 2023 Roland Garros early.

Also after winning the 2023 Rome Masters, Medvedev entered a drought lasting over two years without a title. During these two-plus seasons, the Russian showed strong performances, reaching six men’s singles finals but finishing as runner-up in all of them.
At the 2023 US Open, Medvedev again reached a Grand Slam final but was defeated by Djokovic 6-3, 7-6, 6-3, missing out on his second career Grand Slam title.

In the same 2023 season, Medvedev also reached the men’s singles finals at the ATP500 events in Beijing and Vienna, but was beaten by Sinner in both, ending as runner-up.
Entering the 2024 season, Medvedev continued to perform well on hard courts. Early in the year, he reached the finals of both the Australian Open and Indian Wells Masters, losing to Sinner and Alcaraz respectively, so his title drought persisted into 2024.

In the 2025 season, Medvedev finally made the final at the ATP500 Halle tournament but lost in straight sets to Bublik, missing the title. Moreover, his Grand Slam results this year were poor, with only one win in the first round of the Australian Open and first-round exits at the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.

Fortunately, toward the end of the season, Medvedev’s form improved during the hard court swing. He reached the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters, marking only his second Masters semifinal appearance this season (the first was at Indian Wells earlier in the year).

Last week, Medvedev, seeded second at the ATP250 in Almaty, defeated Walton, Mao Roran, and Duckworth to reach the men’s singles final. He then battled through three sets to beat the 8th seed Moutet in the final, finally ending his more than 800-day title drought.
It’s worth noting that all 21 of Medvedev’s men’s singles titles have been won in 21 different cities. So, do you think Medvedev still has a chance to win a Grand Slam title?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
