Zheng Qinwen has dropped out of the top twenty! No Chinese players remain in the TOP20.

The latest weekly world rankings have been released, with little change among the top 10 players. Sabalenka has now held the world No. 1 spot for over 365 consecutive days. After reclaiming the No. 1 ranking for the second time in her career on October 21, 2024, the Belarusian star has maintained the top position for 53 straight weeks, second only to Swiatek’s 75 weeks among active players.

Players ranked 2nd to 10th are Swiatek, Gauff, Anisimova, Pegula, Rybakina, Keys, Paolini, Andreescu, and Alexandrova. Rybakina notably climbed the rankings thanks to her strong performance during the Asian season, reaching the semifinals in Tokyo and securing a six-match winning streak. After securing her spot in the year-end finals, the Kazakh player chose to withdraw and rest.

Among players ranked 11th to 20th, Bencic made the biggest leap. At the recently concluded WTA500 Tokyo tournament, Bencic defeated Konoskova to claim her second singles title of the season. It’s worth noting that earlier this year, Bencic was ranked only 481st in the world. She has since climbed an impressive 470 spots and is a clear favorite to win this year’s WTA Comeback Player of the Year award.

Also winning a tour title last week, Li Jinyu earned 250 points and reached a career-high ranking of 33rd in the world. She defeated Sun Lulu 7-5, 6-2 in the Guangzhou Open final, a match that drew attention as both finalists are of Chinese descent competing in Germany.

It is notable that Li Jinyu’s victory in Guangzhou marked her second career tour title, coming after a four-year gap since her last championship.

Regarding Chinese players, Zheng Qinwen’s world ranking dropped 13 places to 24th. As the defending champion of last year’s Tokyo event, Zheng lost 500 ranking points. This marks the first time in 106 weeks that her ranking has fallen out of the top twenty, and her ranking is expected to decline significantly by the end of this season.

However, a temporary drop in ranking does not mean much; a brief pause can lead to a stronger comeback. We look forward to seeing a fully revitalized Zheng Qinwen climb back up the rankings through victories and titles.

This week, the second-ranked Chinese player remains Wang Xinyu. In the recently finished Tokyo tournament, she was upset in the first round by Glatch. During this Asian season, Wang has competed in four events but exited in the first round each time (losing to Zhang Shuai at the China Open, to Natsumi Kawaguchi at the Wuhan Open, and to Yuan Yue in Ningbo). Her current world ranking is 55th.

Following Wang Xinyu are Zhang Shuai ranked 104th, Yuan Yue 128th, Zhu Lin 162nd, Guo Hanyu 165th, Wang Xiyu 170th, and Gao Xinyu 175th.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
