Alcaraz Secures 2025 ATP Year-End No. 1 Ranking, Legendary Season of Dominance

Breaking news in tennis on November 13, 2025: Carlos Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Finals (Nitto ATP Finals), achieving a flawless 3-0 record in the group stage and clinching the PIF-sponsored ATP year-end No. 1 ranking for the second time in his career, further cementing his legend as a rising star in the sport.

At just 22 years old, the Spanish star has already made a significant mark in tennis history— in 2022, he became the youngest player to finish the year as world No. 1 since the ATP rankings were established in 1973. With this new title, he joins the exclusive group of active players who have claimed the year-end No. 1 spot multiple times, alongside Novak Djokovic, who has topped the rankings eight times.

Reflecting on the 2025 season, Alcaraz’s performance was nothing short of dominant. He reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open to start the year, then maintained unstoppable form, winning eight titles in total— the highest number of trophies he has ever claimed in a single season. These eight titles include two Grand Slams (French Open, US Open), three ATP Masters 1000 events (Monte Carlo, Rome, Cincinnati), and three ATP 500 tournaments (Rotterdam, Queen’s Club, Tokyo), showcasing his versatility across clay, grass, and hard courts.

His French Open victory was particularly memorable. In the final against fierce rival Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz saved three match points and battled through 5 hours and 29 minutes to complete a stunning comeback. This match set the record for the longest final in French Open history and made him only the ninth player in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam final after losing the first two sets. He is also the first to achieve this feat at Roland Garros since Gastón Gaudio in 2004. At the US Open, he dropped just one set on his way to the title, becoming the youngest player among the four who have won multiple Grand Slams on all three surfaces, joining legends Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Mats Wilander.

Consistency was another hallmark of Alcaraz’s season. From the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters in April through the Kinoshita Group Japan Open in September, he reached the finals in nine consecutive tournaments, demonstrating exceptional endurance and competitive form. In ATP Masters 1000 events, he amassed a 17-match winning streak from Monte Carlo through Cincinnati. Since the series began in 1990, only Djokovic, Roger Federer, Nadal, and Pete Sampras have recorded longer streaks. With these remarkable achievements, Alcaraz joins Björn Borg, Stefan Edberg, and Lleyton Hewitt as one of the elite players to finish as year-end No. 1 twice, becoming the 11th player in ATP history to top the year-end rankings multiple times.

ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi praised Alcaraz’s accomplishments: “Ending the season as world No. 1 is an extraordinary achievement, attained by only 19 players in over 50 years. To do so twice by age 22 is even more remarkable. This highlights not only his exceptional talent but also his relentless drive to improve and his strong determination to compete against the very best.”

Currently, Alcaraz has advanced to the ATP Finals semifinals as the top seed in the Jimmy Connors group. He will face the winner between Zverev and Auger-Aliassime on Saturday. Just two victories away from lifting the season-ending championship trophy for the first time in his career, this rising tennis star continues to write new chapters in his legendary journey.
