The 2026 season has officially kicked off, featuring several events including the United Cup, Brisbane, Auckland, and Hong Kong all happening this week. In the tournament draws, experienced player Zhang Shuai opted to begin in Brisbane, while Wang Xinyu prepared in Auckland, and Zhang Zhizhen, Zhu Lin, and others competed for China in the 2026 United Cup.
Among these players, except for Zheng Qinwen who announced early that she would start the 2026 season with exhibition matches, many fans noticed that Wang Xiyu has yet to appear on any warm-up tournament entry lists.

According to relevant media reports, Wang Xiyu has not participated in last year's winter training due to ongoing injury treatment, and her condition has recently worsened. Her team has not confirmed whether she will be able to compete in the 2026 Australian Open qualifying rounds, which are expected to take place on January 12, just over a week before the main event begins.
Currently ranked 175th in the world, Wang Xiyu stands seventh among all Chinese female players from the mainland. If it is confirmed that she will miss the 2026 Australian Open qualifiers due to injury, her ranking is likely to continue declining.

Born on March 28, 2001, in Taixing, Jiangsu, Wang Xiyu showed excellent athletic potential during her junior years. In 2018, she won two significant junior titles: the Wimbledon girls' doubles and the US Open girls' singles, and in 2019 she claimed the singles championship at the Spain La Bisbal 60K tournament.
By the 2022 season, Wang Xiyu finally started winning matches in adult Grand Slam tournaments. That year, she received a wild card into the Australian Open main draw and won her first-round match in straight sets against Kuzmova, marking her first Grand Slam main draw singles victory. Unfortunately, she faced the tournament’s 4th seed Krejcikova in the second round and was unable to advance further.

From her debut in the 2019 US Open main draw (where she lost in the first round) to her most recent Grand Slam appearance at the 2025 US Open (also a first-round exit), Wang Xiyu only fully competed in the four Grand Slams in 2023 and 2024. Injuries and fluctuating form have continuously affected this young Chinese player.
Nevertheless, Wang Xiyu has made some breakthroughs in recent seasons. In 2023, she won her first WTA singles title at the Guangzhou Open, reaching the final and defeating Linette. Additionally, she claimed the championship at this year’s ITF Lexington W75 event.

Wang Xiyu’s highest singles ranking to date was No. 49, achieved in early 2023. We hope she can recover from her injuries soon, return to the Top 100, and surpass her personal best world ranking!(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
