Match Report | ATP Hong Kong: Wu Yibing Dominates No.54 Marozsan to Advance to Second Round Against Rublev

On January 5th Beijing time, the ATP250 Bank of China Hong Kong Open singles main draw commenced, with Chinese player Wu Yibing appearing in the night session and overpowering Hungary’s world No.54 Marozsan 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of men’s singles, marking a victorious beginning to the new season!

Wu Yibing entered this tournament with a wildcard. This event marks his first competition since winning the men’s singles gold at the National Games. After a winter training period, he showed impressive form in his first match of the year. This victory earned him 25 ranking points, instantly boosting his ranking by 13 places to No.166.

In a post-match interview on court, Wu Yibing said: “This is my first time competing in a tour event in Hong Kong. I’m very happy to start my new season here this year, celebrating New Year’s Eve with my family in Hong Kong. My mother also came. I’m glad to have won the first match of 2026 here, and I hope this is a good start for the new season.”

Wu Yibing’s opponent in the second round will be the tournament’s third seed, Rublev, who had a bye in the first round. This will be their second meeting; they previously faced off in the first round of the 2023 Halle grass court tournament, where Rublev won in three sets.
