Only four days remain until the Australian Open begins, but Djokovic suddenly faces concerns, while Kyrgios offers a heartfelt message.

In men's tennis, Djokovic's accomplishments stand unrivaled, and his 10 Australian Open trophies are equally dominant. Yet, soon after reaching Melbourne, he ran into difficulties with the Australian Open only days away.

On Wednesday morning, Djokovic faced his old adversary Daniil Medvedev in a practice match, losing 5-7. Later that day, during another training session, he lasted only 12 minutes before having to stop due to injury issues.

The 38-year-old veteran experienced neck discomfort, struggling even to complete serving drills on the court, and had to receive urgent treatment from a physiotherapist.

It seems he might have twisted his neck. If it’s not too serious, four days of therapy should be enough to recover. But anyone who plays knows that such a strain can easily be aggravated again in a short time.

Nick Kyrgios speaks on Djokovic's significance to tennis.

For the Australian Open 2026’s fourth seed Djokovic, the current situation is quite unfavorable.

Before the tournament, the Serbian legend received high praise from another ATP player. Nick Kyrgios explained Djokovic’s extraordinary impact on tennis during an interview.

After the Koojan Elite Exhibition, Kyrgios told SBS Sports channel:“Our relationship is very good now.”

I feel that when he’s around me, he reconnects with a bit of his youthful spirit. I know deep down, there’s still a lively young man inside him.

Wherever he goes, he carries immense pressure. People always talk about whether he will retire and what decisions he will make next.

What I want to say is, can we just let him play in peace? Whether he loses in the first round or wins a Grand Slam, what else does he need to prove?

As long as he’s competing, it’s good for the sport. Every match he plays fills the stadium, and I think that’s what really matters.

Over the years, Kyrgios and Djokovic have evolved from rivals on the court to friends in life. Kyrgios is undoubtedly hoping for his friend’s speedy recovery.

Many fans eagerly wish to see Djokovic back on the Australian Open courts, especially considering this legendary star might be nearing the end of his career.

But can everyone hold the same respect and calm attitude as Kyrgios does?
