On February 11, local time, the U.S. Open announced the reform of the mixed doubles program of this year's event, and the competition will be arranged in the singles qualifying week and will last only two days (8.19-20).
With the mixed doubles event no longer being held in conjunction with the singles main draw, the US Open is expected to attract more big-name stars to compete in the mixed doubles. The 2025 US Open mixed doubles champion will receive a whopping $1 million in prize money. The two-day mixed doubles match will be played on the courts of Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong.
Last year's US Open men's and women's singles runners-up, local stars Fritz and Pegula all expressed their support for the move. "As a player who enjoys playing doubles, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to play in the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles in my first week, and I appreciate this innovation, which I believe will bring more fans to the sport," Pegula said. ”
"Mixed doubles has always been an interesting challenge for me, and I've had a lot of good memories over the years, from the Olympics to the United Cup and last year's US Open exhibition event," Fritz said. Of course, I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to challenge for a Grand Slam title in the future. ”
