Currently, Alcaraz holds the world No. 2 ranking, after losing the top spot to Sinner at Monte Carlo last week. However, the opportunity to reclaim the leading position remains open if Carlitos wins this year's tournament, given that the world No. 1 Italian player is not participating in any events this week.

In the next round, the top seed will face Tomas Machac, who recently staged a comeback to defeat Sebastian Baez. This is predicted to be a significant challenge for Alcaraz in his quest for a third title in Barcelona.
