Sinner leaves his partner behind at Monte Carlo Masters 2026

Jannik Sinner participates in both singles and doubles events at this year's ATP 1000 Monte Carlo tournament.

The duo Jannik SinnerZizou Bergs was announced to have withdrawn before the first-round match in the men's doubles event Monte Carlo Masters 2026 against opponents Guido Andreozzi/Manuel Guinard.

The match was scheduled for afternoon on April 9 Vietnam time but did not proceed as planned. According to a post on Koen Bergs' personal X (formerly Twitter) account, Sinner was the one unwilling to continue in this non-specialty event.

“Official: Zizou and Jannik will not play the second round of doubles. Jannik has withdrawn. This is completely understandable as he could reclaim the world number 1 spot at Monte Carlo. Anyway, this was an amazing, unforgettable experience for Zizou.”, Koen Bergs wrote.

Sinner's unwillingness to continue leaves Bergs with no further chance to advance in this year's Monte Carlo doubles event.

In their opening match, Sinner/Bergs excellently defeated Tomas Machac/Casper Ruud with a 2-0 score. Despite not being specialized doubles players and partnering for the first time on Tour, this duo played harmoniously to achieve an initial success. It is regrettable that the pair could not go further in Monte Carlo this year.

Sinner and Bergs will now focus on their specialty singles events, where Sinner aims for the championship and even reclaiming the world number 1 position if Carlos Alcaraz falters. The obstacle awaiting the Italian player immediately is Tomas Machac, while Bergs will face Alexander Zverev after creating a surprise against Andrey Rublev in the previous round.

For the pair Guido Andreozzi/Manuel Guinard, the withdrawal of Jannik Sinner/Zizou Bergs allows them to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament without any effort. This Argentina-France alliance will meet the top-seeded Spanish and Argentine pair: Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos.
