This year's mixed doubles competition at Roland Garros ended with two well-known players claiming the highest honors.
Italian tennis made a strong impression at Roland Garros 2026 as the duo of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori brilliantly defended their mixed doubles title. Their victory on Court Philippe Chatrier not only earned them their fourth Grand Slam trophy together but also etched their names into the tournament's history.
In the final played under sunny skies in Paris, Errani and Vavassori overcame the pair of Gabriela Dabrowski and Evan King with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in a decisive super tiebreak. This marked the second consecutive year the Italian duo triumphed at Roland Garros, making them the first pair to successfully defend the mixed doubles title at this event since 2019.
Dabrowski/King got off to a promising start. The North American pair built an early advantage by taking a 4-0 lead in the first set through effective attacking play and capitalizing on net opportunities. They maintained their edge to win the opening set 6-4 after 38 minutes of play.
However, the defending champions quickly showed their composure in the subsequent sets. Errani/Vavassori dominated the second set with a 6-3 win, then maintained their superior form in the deciding super tiebreak. After taking an early 3-0 lead, the Italian duo completely controlled the match and converted their first championship point to close out the contest in 1 hour and 19 minutes.
The victory was even more meaningful as Errani—at 39 years old—continued to demonstrate her class and experience on the Grand Slam stage. Alongside Vavassori, the veteran female player now boasts a perfect record in Grand Slam mixed doubles finals, with four wins in four appearances.
After the match, Vavassori was visibly emotional as he paid special tribute to his partner. The 31-year-old stated that Errani is not only a perfect on-court teammate but also a person who has greatly influenced his growth both professionally and personally.
The mixed doubles was the first event at Roland Garros this year to find its champion. Currently, the remaining events—men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, and women's doubles—are all entering the semifinal rounds.
