Miami Masters unsigned: Djoacre has a great signing! Ziwei is sad again

The 2025 Miami Open has begun, with Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz leading the way as former champions. However, the top seed in this tournament is Zverev. All three stars will be hoping to put in a strong show in Miami to make up for their defeat at the Indian Wells Masters, the first leg of the Sunshine Double. They were expecting a favorable draw, but not everyone got their wish.

Here are the top five winners and losers of the men's singles draw at this year's Miami Open:

Winner – six-time Miami champion Novak Djokovic

Since exiting the Australian Open semi-finals (against Zverev) in January due to injury, Djokovic has struggled to find a winning rhythm. However, he is expected to rediscover his form in Miami, as his opponents in the early rounds were relatively weak.

With a first-round bye, he will face the winner of Rinki Hijikata and Mejdovic in the second round, and possibly against another weaker opponent, Mitchelson, which should not worry the 24-time Grand Slam champion too much.

Djokovic could meet Musetti in the fourth round. Although he has lost to the Italians in Monte Carlo, he has won the last three meetings. In addition, he is in the quarter-finals with Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev, although Djokovic has a clear advantage over both of them.

Loser - Zverev

As the top seed in this tournament, Zverev's draw was not easy. The opening bout will be against Bonzi or a qualifier, followed by a possible face against the cannon type Perricard. The Frenchman blasted 36 aces to beat Kyrgios earlier this year, and Miami's fast hard courts were undoubtedly in his serve.

If Zverev can make it this way, Tiafoe and Fez are waiting for him ahead. In addition, two Indian Wells finalists, Rune and Draper, were also placed in Zverev's quarter, making the competition even more intense.

Winner – Alcaraz

Alcaraz is one of four former champions of the tournament and is the No. 2 seed in the bottom half of the draw. His opening bout was relatively easy, and Alcaraz should be able to win his first seed, Brandon Nakashima, in the third round. Next, he could face Dimitrov, who knocked out Alcaraz in a shock at last year's Miami Open, in the fourth round. However, the Bulgarian has been in poor form of late and suffered a heavy 1-6 1-6 defeat to Alcaraz at Indian Wells.

If Alcaraz manages to advance to the quarter-finals, he could face Tommy Paul or Ruud.

Loser - Fritz

Fritz's draw is full of challenges, with the second round expected to face the delicate Sonego and the third round against strong hitter Shapovalov.

If Fritz can break through, he will face an even tougher test – against homegrown talent Ben Shelton or former Miami champion Hurkacz. In other words, Fritz's path to promotion has little breathing room.

In addition, his quarter, which includes Rublev, Berrettini, Amber and De Minaur, is quite competitive.

Winner – Draper

For Draper, March 2025 could be a turning point in his career. The Englishman has just won the title at Indian Wells and is now aiming for the Sunshine Double.

Luckily, his draw was quite favorable. Neither Mensik nor Agut will be too challenging in the first round, and his projected first-seeded opponent is Poplin, who also has a better chance of winning. The fourth round could see a repeat of the Indian Wells final, against Rune. Draper won comfortably 6-2 6-2 in that final, so he'll have the psychological edge. If Draper moves forward, he'll be in Zverev's half in the quarterfinals.(Source: Tennis Home Author: Spark)
