ATP Future Stars: Alcaraz's Potential
A four-time Grand Slam champion, Alcaraz may be a 21-year-old veteran on the ATP Tour, having made a name for himself at a young age and has achieved a number of major achievements. At the age of 19, Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open, becoming the youngest world No. 1 and year-end world No. 1. Since then, he has won two Wimbledon titles, one French Open and six ATP1000 Masters trophies, most recently at the Monte Carlo Masters last week.
When asked how he sees the future of tennis, Alcaraz named three young players who have impressed him: Jakubu Mensik, Joao Fonseca and Arthur Fils.
He said:
"Tennis is going through a very good period at the moment; There are a lot of young players who have the ability to achieve great things and compete for titles in major tournaments, like Mensik, who we have already seen, who is a player who will continue to grow but has established himself.
"Joao Fonseca is another player I love to watch play; He's charismatic on the court and he's very good at tennis.
"My first time I played Arthur Fils in Monte Carlo, I was amazed by his strength and level."
Mensik was born in 2005He became one of the ATP Top 100 players last year and won his first Masters title against tennis legend Novak Djokovic in the final of this year's Miami Open. Indeed, as Alcaraz said, he has established himself and there is still room for growth.
João Fonseca, born in 2006It's another player Alcaraz mentioned. He is charismatic and excellent on the pitch. Fonseca made her debut in 2023 at the age of 17 and won the ATP Next Generation Finals in 2024. At this year's Australian Open, the 18-year-old made his Grand Slam debut, beating No.9 seed Andrei Rublev in the first round before winning the Argentine Open final and moving into the top 75 of the ATP rankings.
Arthur Fils was born in 2004He was equally impressed with Alcaraz. Alcaraz faced Fils for the first time in Monte Carlo and marveled at his strength and level. The 20-year-old has reached 14th in his career rankings and has reached the quarter-finals of all three ATP Masters tournaments this year. In the Monte Carlo quarter-finals, Fils came close to beating Alcaraz, who won in three sets.
Speaking after the game, Alcaraz praised:
"I think he's pretty high. The power with which he hits the ball is amazing. In terms of physical condition, he is certainly one of the most physical players on the tour, one of the best. ”
For Alcaraz, this is a time for many young players to work hard and show their strength, which is good for tennis. There is reason to believe that young players such as Menswick, Fonseca and Fils will surprise us in the coming years, and they will write their own chapter on the tennis stage.
