In tennis, the Italians are writing their own chapter of success. Lorenzo Musetti's impressive performances at the Madrid Open 2025 saw him break into the top 10 of the ATP rankings, making him the fourth Italian player to do so.
Musetti has been in fine form on clay, finishing runners-up at the Monte Carlo Masters and reaching the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open. When he arrived in Madrid, he was ranked 11th in the world, a career-high ranking and immediately moved up to ninth place after beating De Minaur. The 2019 pro-turned-professional has won two ATP singles titles and reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year.
In addition to Musetti, there are five Italian men who have been in the top 10 in the world.
Adriano PanataHe was the first Italian to break into the ATP top 10, finishing eighth in 1973 when the ATP first announced the rankings, reaching the fourth highest peak in the world in 1976 and winning 10 ATP singles titles in his career between 1969 and 1983, including the 1976 French Open.
Corrado BarazutiHe first entered the top 10 in February 1978 and stayed for 33 weeks, reaching the world's seventh-highest ranking in August 1977, winning five singles titles in his career from 1971 to 1984 and reaching the semi-finals of the French Open and the US Open.
Fabio FogniniHe first entered the top 10 in June 2019 for eight weeks, peaked at ninth in July 2019, turned professional in 2004, won nine ATP singles titles, and his biggest achievement was winning the 2019 Monte Carlo Masters, where he is now ranked 112th and regularly featured in Challenger tournaments.
Matteo BerrettiniHe first entered the top 10 in the same year as Fognini in the same year (2019), his most recent week as a top-10 player in June 2022, reached a career-high sixth place in January 2022, turned professional in 2015, won 10 ATP titles, and was runner-up at Wimbledon in 2021 and is now ranked 31st.
Yannick SinnerHe first entered the top 10 in November 2021 and has stayed for 117 weeks, and has been at the top of the world for 47 consecutive weeks since his debut in June 2024, turning professional in 2018 and winning 19 titles, including three Grand Slam titles.
These Italians have left their mark on the ATP rankings, and their achievements are not only personal glory, but also add to the development of Italian tennis, and we look forward to continuing to do well in the future.
