As the last warm-up tournament before the French Open every year, the Rome Open has always been a must-see for tennis players, and this year is no exception. So who has won the women's singles championship trophy in the past five seasons? Let's review it with you!
2020 season
[1] Halep 6-0 2-1 [2] Kara Pliskova
Romanian tennis star Halep officially announced his retirement in early February this year, and in fact, from his ban in 2022 to his official return at the end of last year, Halep's form and feel have undoubtedly been greatly reduced.
As a former Women's Singles world No.1, Halep is particularly strong on clay, holding nine of the 24 WTA singles titles she holds, including the French Open in 2018 and Rome in 2020.
As the top seed in the women's singles at Rome 2020, Halep eliminated Yastremska and Muguruza on the way to qualify, and met the second seed Kapliskova in the final, and finally received the opponent's retirement ceremony with a large lead, and won the women's singles title in Rome for the first time in her career.
2021 season
[15] Swiatek 6-0 6-0 [9] Karolina Pliskova
Six-time five-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek has yet to win a major in 2021 and as the No.15 seed at Rome 2021, her path to victory was convincing.
Riske in the first round, Keys in the second round, Krejcikova in the third round, Svitolina in the fourth round, Gauff in the semifinals, and finally Karolina Pliskova in the final.
Swiatek, who was reaching the WTA1000 women's singles final for the first time, was very strong and eventually swept her opponent 6-0 to win the highest level of her career at the time.
2022 season
[1] Swiatek 6-2 6-2 [9] Abdul-Jabbar
Just a year later, Swiatek is back in Rome and has become the top seed in the women's singles, having won four consecutive high-level tournament women's singles titles at the Qatar Open 2022, Indian Wells, Miami and Stuttgart before arriving in Rome.
This year's successful title defense is still full of gold, defeating Azarenka, Andreescu, Sabalenka and other famous players on the way to the title, and easily beating Jabbar 6-2 in the final.
The 2023 Rome Women's Singles title goes to Rybakina. Swiatek won her third title here last year. However, defending champion and tournament second seed Swiatek was knocked out 6-1 7-5 by Collins in the third round.
The current fourth round of the second half of the division is as follows:
[6] Paulini VS [17] Ostapenko
[13] Schneider VS [25] Mertens
Stearns vs Naomi Osaka
[16] Svitolina VS [29] Collins
