Recently, eight-time Grand Slam championAndrea AgassiJoin the "Tennis with Andy Roddick" podcast, which provides an in-depth analysis of the technical styles of three of today's top tennis players – Alcaraz, Sinner and Djokovic – and reveals their unique characteristics on the court.
Agassi was impressed by Alcaraz's adaptability to the field: "His speed from red clay to grass barely decayed. ”
While most players lose coverage on grass due to cautious starts, Alcaraz is able to complete the extreme maneuver of "chasing the ball after a pause" on the centre court of Wimbledon, with his extreme confidence in kicking the ground. Agassi described the "flying saucer versus the F-15 fighter" as a unique movement – while the other competitors were flying in a straight line, Alcaraz was able to change direction and change tempo without slowing down.
Despite winning four Grand Slams and setting the record for the youngest world No. 1, Agassi believes there is still room for improvement:
"His physical gifts have not yet been fully realized, and fans should cherish his 'instinctive shots' for spectacle, and there are many more possibilities for his career in the long run."
Unlike Alcaraz's agility, world No. 1 Sinner is "scalpel-like".
"He never struck an extra shot, and his 85 per cent power shot looked conservative but was as deadly as a straight punch," Agassi noted. ”
Sinner's consistency at the top of the table for 52 consecutive weeks exemplifies the style of play of "maximizing efficiency" – making very few mistakes, being adept at pressing opponents with landing points, and having a clear goal of "never looking back once you take control of the game". He is about to hit the French Open for the third time in a row, and he is regarded as "Modern tennis rationalism".
Speaking about the 38-year-old Djokovic, Agassi's respect peaked: "He is the best defender of all time, and he is the 'double-faced' who can be the strongest attacker when needed. ”
The style of play is full of games like that of a boxer – luring the enemy deep in "lockdown mode", and when the opponent lets his guard down, he instantly switches to "super defensive counterattack" and even turns to attack to finish the match.
He is hitting 25 Grand Slams, and he has proved the irreplaceability of "tennis wisdom" with experience and technology.
From Alcaraz's talent-driven, Sinner's efficiency-oriented, to Djokovic's empirical philosophy, Agassi's analysis epitomizes a generational shift in tennis. As he puts it:
"Alcaraz represents the future, Sinner defines the present, and Djokovic remains the benchmark for greatness."
The trio are pushing the boundaries of tennis in very different ways, and fans are able to witness the pinnacle of multi-style matchups.
