Zheng Qinwen undergoes right elbow surgery: hitting the pause button for a better comeback.

On July 19, Beijing time, the current world No. 6 Chinese tennis star Zheng Qinwen updated her status on social media, revealing that she recently had surgery on her right elbow.

“I want to share my recent situation with my friends who care about me: I have been struggling with pain in my right elbow during training and competitions for a while. Although I have been trying to manage it through various interventions, the impact of the pain has always been there. After consulting with elbow specialists, they advised me and my team to proceed with arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery on my right elbow as soon as possible to completely resolve the issue. My team and I had thorough discussions, and in order to return to the court in the best condition as soon as possible, we decided that surgery was the best option. I had the surgery yesterday, and it went very smoothly, and I am currently in recovery. For the time being, I will focus on rehabilitation training, striving to return to the court in full condition as soon as possible. This brief adjustment is aimed at a stronger comeback in the future. Thank you all for your support and patience; please wait for my full recovery, and I look forward to seeing you on the court,” Zheng Qinwen wrote.

Zheng Qinwen previously withdrew from the WTA 500 Washington event, achieving a record of 19 wins and 11 losses in the 2025 season so far, reaching the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Rome and WTA 500 in London, and making it to the quarterfinals of the French Open, WTA 1000 in Indian Wells, Miami, and WTA 500 in Charleston. Wishing Zheng Qinwen a speedy recovery and a return to the court she loves!
