WTA Montreal Open: Gauff and Swiatek lead the charge, while Pegula aims for a third consecutive title.

The draw for the WTA 1000 Montreal Open women's singles main event has been announced. French Open champion Gauff and Wimbledon champion Swiatek are the leading seeds, with two-time defending champion Pegula positioned as the third seed.

As the WTA 1000 Montreal Open women's singles qualifiers began yesterday, both Zhang Shuai and Townsend had to withdraw to compete in the WTA 500 Washington doubles final. Chinese player Guo Hanyu stepped in for Townsend in the qualifiers, winning 12 consecutive games in just 52 minutes to defeat Buzarnescu 6-0/6-0, successfully advancing to the main draw! In the first round of the main draw, Guo will face Putintseva, and in the second round, she is set to compete against the second seed Swiatek. This marks her first appearance in a WTA Tour singles main draw since the 2023 WTA 250 Nanchang event, as well as her debut in a WTA 1000 singles main draw.

Wang Yafan triumphed over the ninth seed Masarova with a score of 6-2/4-6/6-3 in the qualifiers, securing her first official match victory since the Australian Open. In the first round of the main draw, she will face Starodubtseva, followed by a potential match against the 21st seed Frech in the next round. Zhu Lin qualified for the main draw by protecting her ranking, facing Gracheva in the first round and potentially meeting the 12th seed Alexandrova in the second round.

The WTA 1000 Montreal Open will take place from July 27 to August 7, with a total prize pool of $5,152,599. The singles champion will earn 1000 ranking points and a prize of $752,275. The defending champion is Pegula, who won titles in 2023 and 2024 by defeating Samsonova and Anisimova, respectively, securing back-to-back victories.
