Djokovic's latest training sends concerning signals, confirming his participation in mixed doubles at the US Open.

The outlook for Novak Djokovic at the upcoming 2025 US Open seems overshadowed. A recent video shows the Serbian receiving therapy for a knee injury during pre-match training.

By Djokovic's own standards, his performance in the 2025 season has been quite disappointing; he has yet to win a Grand Slam title, having reached the semifinals at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon.

Now, with the US Open approaching, the former world number one is aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title. If successful, he will become the player with the most Grand Slam titles in tennis history, surpassing Margaret Court. However, this goal now appears to be severely hindered.

In a recent video circulating on social media, Djokovic can be seen receiving treatment on his right knee during a training session in Montenegro. It seems to be the same knee injury that has troubled the 24-time Grand Slam champion for the past few months, causing him to withdraw from several events.

In fact, Djokovic hasn't played a match since Wimbledon. Moreover, he is likely heading straight to the US Open without any hard court warm-up events. Currently, his team has not released any updates regarding his physical condition, leaving everyone to wait and see how he will perform upon arriving in New York.

If he can compete, Djokovic will enter the tournament as a four-time US Open champion, having previously triumphed in 2011, 2015, 2018, and 2023. Notably, the 2023 US Open title is also his most recent Grand Slam victory to date.

However, according to official information from the US Open, Djokovic will participate in the mixed doubles event. Over the years, he has supported Danilovic in her tennis journey—inviting her to train at his "Novak Tennis Center" in Belgrade, cheering for her during matches, and serving as her mentor. In the mixed doubles competition starting this Tuesday, they will be teaming up.

Former world number one Djokovic has rarely participated in doubles events in recent years, choosing to focus on singles, which has led him to win 24 Grand Slam singles titles. His best performance in Grand Slam doubles was reaching the second round at Wimbledon in 2006, and at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021), he and Stojanovic reached the semifinals but had to withdraw from the mixed doubles bronze medal match due to Djokovic's shoulder injury sustained in the singles bronze medal match.

Danilovic is the daughter of former basketball star Predrag Danilovic, and she achieved her career-high ranking of world number 32 in July this year, currently sitting at 43rd. This summer, she reached the semifinals of the Canadian Open alongside Hsieh Su-wei and made it to the quarterfinals of the French Open with Potapova. Danilovic became the first "00s" player to win a WTA title in 2018, and she has also won three junior Grand Slam doubles titles, including the 2017 US Open, giving her valuable insights on how to succeed in Flushing Meadows.

The duo previously teamed up to represent Serbia at the 2024 United Cup, defeating Zheng Qinwen and Zhang Zhizhen with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 10-6.

For Danilovic, partnering with Djokovic is almost a dream come true. "Playing mixed doubles with Novak, I think this is one of the best moments of my career. When he made that volley and the match ended, the emotions that surged were indescribable. This is my first time playing mixed doubles and my first time partnering with Novak. As I said on the court, I’ve ticked off something from my wish list." She remarked after defeating Zheng Qinwen and Zhang Zhizhen.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Spark)
