WTA Cleveland: Wang Xinyu and Wang Yafan advance in three sets, while Yuan Yue and Zhu Lin are defeated.

On August 18 local time, the 2025 WTA 250 Cleveland tournament kicked off with the opening round of women's singles. Second seed Wang Xinyu missed match points in the second set but eventually beat Lammens 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-2 to reach the second round, where she will play Gibson. Wang Yafan, who came through qualifying, defeated American player Stearns 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, avenging her loss in Cincinnati, and will next face top seed Samsonova.

The other two Chinese players in the tournament failed to progress: Yuan Yue lost to seventh seed Bolt 4-6, 3-6, and Zhu Lin was beaten by qualifier Jacquemot 3-6, 1-6.

In women's doubles, second seeds Jiang Xinyu and Chan Hao-ching defeated Tang Qianhui and Santamaria 6-4, 6-1 to reach the second round. Early tomorrow morning Beijing time, Zhu Lin and Zheng Saisai will face top seeds Danilina and Krunic on the center court, while Wang Yafan and Shuko Aoyama will play against Dzeiwuk and Shkoch on Court 1.
