The team of the legend Ngọc Hoa struggled to win, awaiting the determination of their semifinal opponent in the 2025 National Championship.

VTV Bình Điền Long An struggled but managed to beat the Ho Chi Minh City women's team 3-2 in phase 2 of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship. They are guaranteed a place in the top 4 at the end of the season and are awaiting their semifinal opponent's identity.

VTV Bình Điền Long An narrowly defeated Ho Chi Minh City in phase 2 of the 2025 National Championship.

The opening match on the second day of phase 2 of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship featured an exciting score chase between the defending champions VTV Bình Điền Long An and Ho Chi Minh City — a team still seeking their first victory this season. After more than two hours of intense play, coach Ngọc Hoa’s team overcame their rivals 3-2 (25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 23-25, 15-2), securing their fifth win since the tournament began.

From the initial minutes, both teams started cautiously, closely matching each other's scores. However, as the game went on, VTV Bình Điền Long An increasingly showed superiority in composure and coordination. The attacking duo Roni Jones-Perry and Đặng Thị Kim Thanh performed spectacularly, helping the western team claim the first set 25-19. In the second set, coach Ngọc Hoa’s players continued their strong performance, fully controlling the match and easily closing it at 25-14, pushing the overall score to 2-0.

It seemed Long An would finish the match quickly, but the turning point came in the third set when coach Ngọc Hoa substituted Trà My for Kim Thanh. This change slowed the team’s attacking rhythm, while Ho Chi Minh City took advantage to break away strongly, gaining a 9-1 lead early in the set. Despite VTV Bình Điền Long An’s efforts to reduce the gap, Ho Chi Minh City stubbornly maintained their lead and won 25-20 — their first set win of the season.

In the fourth set, the match became more tense. Long An led in the first half but lost momentum as Kim Thoa and teammates made multiple small mistakes. In contrast, Ho Chi Minh City grew more confident, consistently leading and finishing the set with a 25-23 win, tying the match at 2-2. Although they failed to take all three points, the team named after Uncle Ho earned their first point in the tournament — a deserved reward for their perseverance.

The decisive fifth set demonstrated the reigning champions’ quality. Kim Thanh returned to the court and immediately helped the team regain balance in both attack and morale. The Long An girls dominated completely, scoring continuously and closing the match with a 15-2 victory, sealing the final score at 3-2.

The win against Ho Chi Minh City extended VTV Bình Điền Long An’s unbeaten streak but also left many valuable lessons. Coach Ngọc Hoa’s team still experiences moments of psychological instability and difficulty sustaining the match pace. Nevertheless, overcoming challenges in such a fluctuating game will be a crucial stepping stone as they aim to defend their championship in the 2025 season.

With the victory over Ho Chi Minh City, VTV Bình Điền Long An remains in second place with 14 points. Coach Ngọc Hoa’s players have secured a top 4 finish. They will face Hóa Chất Đức Giang Lào Cai in the final round of the round-robin phase.

Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City women’s team has only 1 point and no wins, continuing to hold the last position on the leaderboard. Given their current capability, the team coached by Trần Thị Hiền faces a high risk of relegation.
