Vietnam's young volleyball star emerges into the spotlight at the 2025 National Championship

The achievements at the 2025 National Volleyball Championship are expected to serve as a launching pad for this gifted outside hitter to continue progressing in his career.

The National Championship is the highest level of professional volleyball in Vietnam, where teams field their strongest lineups aiming for major goals. Not every young talent gets frequent opportunities to compete in this prestigious arena, but if given the chance and able to make an impression, it certainly becomes an important stepping stone for young athletes to reach greater milestones in the future.

One of the most striking young stars at this year’s National Volleyball Championship is Phạm Xuân Sinh – an outside hitter playing for Thể Công Tân Cảng.

Alongside Lý Đình Quý and Trịnh Ngọc Đạt, Xuân Sinh is a prominent rising talent in Vietnamese youth volleyball, having made his mark at youth levels with Thể Công. However, earning regular playing time on the first team is not easy for the 2005-born hitter. Thể Công Tân Cảng is an ambitious club targeting top achievements in competitions, and currently boasts quality outside hitters like captain Nguyễn Văn Nam, Lê Trung Thành, and Hà Mạnh Hùng.

At the 2025 National Championship, Xuân Sinh’s opportunity came when captain Văn Nam unexpectedly suffered an injury during the semifinal against Công an TPHCM after a landing, and couldn’t recover in time. Xuân Sinh was the trusted choice by coach Thái Anh Văn for the intense final match against Biên Phòng.

Facing the Army derby with considerable pressure, Xuân Sinh delivered a highly impressive performance. The outside hitter from Quảng Bình played most of the match, proving his capability with effective scoring thanks to his 1.91m height, and smooth reception skills that filled the gap left by Văn Nam.

In critical moments, Xuân Sinh also demonstrated remarkable composure despite being only 20 years old, with confident attacks—one of which helped Thể Công Tân Cảng push Biên Phòng into overtime in the fourth set, and then win that set to force a decisive final set. Unfortunately, Xuân Sinh and his teammates were unable to overthrow Biên Phòng’s dominance, a club with an exceptionally strong roster.

Given the current situation in Vietnamese men’s volleyball, where there is an excess of setters but a shortage of outside hitters, Phạm Xuân Sinh could well be given chances to play on the national team rather than only being called up to train alongside senior players as he has been this year.
