While a few fans were surprised by the absence of Thanh Thúy and Bích Thủy from the preliminary list for SEA Games 33, the majority recognize that both are "top students granted special exemptions."
The reason for Thanh Thúy and Bích Thủy’s absence comes from the demanding schedule of Japan’s SV-League. Thanh Thúy, currently excelling at Gunma Green Wings, impressed with decisive scoring plays in October 2025 matches. Bích Thủy recently traveled to Japan to join Okayama Seagulls.
The professional league in Japan runs from September through November, coinciding with Vietnam’s preliminary team training period. For regional events such as the SEA Games, Asian clubs typically hold onto players until close to competition dates. Nonetheless, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) has closely coordinated with the two Japanese clubs to ensure both players join the national team before SEA Games 33, expected to begin December 2, 2025, in Thailand.
