The organizers of SEA Games 33 in Thailand held the indoor volleyball draw on October 19th.
On October 19th, the SEA Games 33 organizers in Thailand carried out the indoor volleyball draw. As a result, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was placed in Group B alongside Indonesia, Myanmar, and Malaysia. Meanwhile, Group A consists of Thailand (host and defending champion), the Philippines, and Singapore.
With this outcome, the Vietnamese women's team will face their long-time rival Indonesia right in the group stage. Both teams have met multiple times in the SEA V.League and other regional tournaments in 2025, with the advantage currently favoring Vietnam. Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt's squad aims to advance beyond the group stage to meet Thailand again in the final.
In the men's category, Vietnam is drawn into Group A with Thailand, Singapore, and Laos. Group B includes Indonesia (defending champions), Cambodia, the Philippines, and Myanmar. The indoor volleyball competition at SEA Games 33 will begin on December 10th, with the women's matches concluding on December 15th and the men's continuing until December 19th.
At SEA Games 32-2023 in Cambodia, the Vietnamese women's team performed impressively by reaching the final but lost 1-3 to Thailand, earning the silver medal. Meanwhile, the men's team secured the bronze after defeating the Philippines.
This year, Southeast Asian volleyball teams have the opportunity to compete in the SEA V.League 2025, a tournament that helps teams assess their form and prepare strategies ahead of the regional games. Vietnam has faced Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia in this competition, gaining valuable experience before entering the SEA Games.
The SEA Games 33 organizers announced that all volleyball matches will be broadcast live to serve fans across the region.
