Vi Thị Như Quỳnh stands as the greatest hope for Medan Falcons in the current season.
On the afternoon of January 8th, Vietnam time, Vi Thị Như Quỳnh made her debut for her new team Medan Falcons - a club competing in the Indonesian National Volleyball League. The result, the Falcons suffered a 0-3 loss, which was not very surprising, against Jakarta Popsivo Polwan - the current runner-up of the tournament.
According to unofficial statistics, Như Quỳnh scored over 10 points in this match. Although she couldn't help her teammates create an upset, the performance of the attacker from Nghệ An was highly praised by Indonesian media.
Specifically, the Bolasport highlighted Vi Thị Như Quỳnh and Della Palomata - a middle blocker from the Philippine national team - as the main offensive weapons for Medan Falcons, with Như Quỳnh being a constant threat in the number 4 position. The article also noted that the Falcons had good ball distribution, managed by Indonesian national team setter Yolana Betha Pangestika.
Bolasport also acknowledged the efforts of Như Quỳnh and her teammates as they posed certain challenges to Jakarta Popsivo in the first and second sets but ultimately suffered a heavy defeat against the strong opponent.
Medan Falcons (formerly Yogya Falcons) is one of the seven clubs participating in the 2026 Women’s National Volleyball Championship. Last season, the Falcons had a disappointing record of 0 wins and 12 losses, finishing last on the standings.
The recruitment of Vi Thị Như Quỳnh and Dell Palomata is expected to help Medan Falcons improve their ranking this season. Besides these two Southeast Asian foreign players, the Falcons also have three national team players who recently won bronze with Indonesia at the 33rd SEA Games held in Thailand last December, along with head coach Marcos Sugiyama from the "Island Nation".
In their next match at 16:00 on January 10th, Medan Falcons will face Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk - the club that Trần Thị Thanh Thúy played for earlier in 2025.
