Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates are set to compete in several key international competitions this season.
According to information from SGGP, the 20th ASIAD held in Japan will be the primary focus for the Vietnam women's volleyball team in 2026. The coaching staff plans to develop a preparation roadmap and specific performance targets, which will be reported to the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) before submitting to the leadership of the Sports Administration Department in the near future.
At the 19th ASIAD held in 2023 in Hangzhou, China, the Vietnam women's volleyball team made history by finishing in 4th place overall. This is regarded as the highest achievement ever attained by a Vietnamese national volleyball team in this prestigious competition. A highlight of that memorable journey nearly three years ago was a courageous 3-2 victory over South Korea, which even impressed the volleyball legend from the "Land of the Morning Calm" - Kim Yeon-koung.
Besides the women's indoor team, the men's indoor volleyball teams as well as the men's and women's beach volleyball teams are also developing professional plans with the potential aim of competing in the 20th ASIAD. However, whether these teams will be sent to participate will be carefully considered based on performance goals, competitiveness forecasts, and resource conditions.
In fact, three years ago, after a thorough evaluation of professional capacity, the Sports Administration Department only decided to send the women's indoor volleyball team to compete in the 19th ASIAD.
Apart from the mission at ASIAD 20, next year the Vietnam women's volleyball team will also target the 2026 Asian Championship, where Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates achieved an extraordinary feat three years ago. Additionally, they will continue to compete in familiar tournaments such as the SEA V.League, AVC Nations Cup, and the home VTV Cup.
