Not Tran Thi Thanh Thuy or Tran Thi Bich Thuy, but Vo Thi Kim Thoa is the Vietnamese athlete recognized in the individual category at the 2026 AVC Cup, earning the title of Best Setter of the competition.
The 2026 AVC Cup concluded in the Philippines, with the women's volleyball team winning the championship after a 3-0 victory over Taiwan in the final. Alongside the awards for the strongest teams, the organizing committee also announced individual prizes, with Vo Thi Kim Thoa being the only representative from Vietnam women's volleyball team.
This award is well-deserved for the setter born in 1998, who took on the role of the national team’s main setter for the first time at a major tournament. Despite the responsibility of coordinating the entire attacking system, Kim Thoa demonstrated confidence, precision, and effective ball-handling skills.
According to statistics from the 2026 AVC Cup organizing committee, Kim Thoa executed a total of 478 sets throughout the tournament. Among these, she had 137 running sets—plays that created gaps in front of the opponents' block—along with 340 still sets to maintain stability during ball distribution.

Notably, Kim Thoa committed only one setting error during the entire tournament, demonstrating exceptional match controlon at the setter position. This performance placed her at the top of the group of standout athletes in the setting category with an efficiency rate of 28.66%.
Right Kim Thoa was Liao Yi-jen (Taiwan) with 111 running sets, 369 still sets, and 2 setting errors (23.03%). The next setters were Natalya Khazova of Kazakhstan (110 running sets, 443 still sets, 4 setting errors, 9.75% efficiency), Kim Dain (86 running sets, 355 still sets, 1 setting error, 19.46% efficiency), and Mikaela Stevens (81 running sets, 311 still sets, 2 setting errors, 20.56% efficiency).
Kim selection was also partly due to her being a regular presence in the Vietnamese women's starting lineup at the 2026 AVC Cup. Meanwhile, stars like Thanh Thuy or Bich Thuy, despite contributing significantly in points and expertise, were not honored in their respective categories due to various factors such factors as playing time and the team's overall performance.

Tran Thi Thanh Thuy remained one of the most prominent scorers for Vietnam in the tournament with over 100 points, while Tran Thi Bich Thuy continued to show her strength as a middle blocker. However, in terms of setting and orchestrating the game, Kim Thoa left the clearest mark.
The Best Setter title at the 2026 AVC Cup not only recognizes not only her individual performance but also marks a significant step forward in her career representing the national team. After this tournament, the setter position for women's has gained a reliable figure for future major goals.
