Vietnamese billiard player brilliantly defeats the world champion to claim the European title
Player Trần Quyết Chiến made a strong impression by defeating Frederic Caudron in the final of the Blois 3-Cushion Masters 2025 billiard tournament in France. As Vietnam’s top-ranked carom 3-cushion player, Trần Quyết Chiến delivered an outstanding performance at the Blois 3-Cushion Masters 2025 held in France, securing the championship with a commanding 50-15 victory over Frederic Caudron in the final match early on December 22. Facing a world-class opponent, Quyết Chiến played very strategically, prioritizing solid shots and forcing Caudron into a defensive position. This marks the latest occasion Quyết Chiến has defeated Caudron in international competitions, extending his impressive streak which includes wins at the 2024 World Cup Veghel, the semifinals of the Ho Chi Minh City World Cup, and the 2018 LG Cup final. Trần Quyết Chiến continues his winning streak against Frederic Caudron. Frederic Caudron (born 1968 in Mons, Belgium) is a renowned professional billiards player, nicknamed "L'Extraterrestre" (The Alien). Caudron has won the UMB World Three-cushion Championship in 1999, 2013, 2017, and 2025. He also claimed back-to-back titles at the Sang Lee International Open (2006 and 2007), two CEB European Championships (2002 and 2006), along with 53 Belgian national titles. Quyết Chiến’s path to victory was challenging. He overcame many elite players such as Sameh Sidhom, Eddy Merckx, and Marco Zanetti but faced tough setbacks in the group stage with losses to Trần Thanh Lực and Martin Horn. Another Vietnamese player, Trần Thanh Lực, also made a mark by reaching the semifinals before being stopped by Caudron. The Blois 3-Cushion Masters 2025 took place in the city of Blois, along the Loire River, from December 18-21, featuring 24 top players worldwide. Competitors were divided into 4 groups, competing through qualifiers, round of 16, and knockout finals across 6 billiard tables at the Eric Tabarly Sports Complex. The tournament offered attractive prizes totaling over 6.2 billion VND, with the champion receiving 30,000 euros.
